Meet Dave, our senior engineer, and find out what his role at Spartan entails.

What is your name and role?

“David Corless and I’m the senior engineer. I’ve been working on forklifts for nearly twelve years.”

How long have you been working at Spartan?

“I’ve worked here at Spartan just short of eight years. Servicing, repairs, Loler inspections, after service repairs, changing all the fluids, spark plugs, cleaning the gas filter out and checking the gas system, grease around the axel, mast and that sort of thing. A lot of stuff gets picked up on the service so it’s a good thing if you service them right and you don’t get any breakdowns because you pick up on stuff before it breaks.”

How long does it take to service a truck?

“It depends on the condition of the truck and the site. Between an hour and a half to two and a half hours.”

What is the most rewarding part of the job?

“It’s probably keeping the customer’s trucks running, probably more so if they have breakdowns and they’re struggling. Obviously if your customer only has one or two trucks and it breaks down it’ll be a disaster for them, so if you can get them back running in a reasonable timeframe and not disrupt what they’re doing too much it’s quite rewarding in that you’ve gone out of your way to make someone else’s life easier.”
